On April 17, 2026 the Pierre Fauchard Academy Canada celebrated the induction of new fellows and honoured award recipients. It was held during the Canadian Dental Association/Manitoba Dental Association Prairie Lights Conference.

PFA Canada is pleased to announce $1000 scholarships awarded to top students from each Canadian dental school who participated in the Dentsply Sirona SCADA competition as representatives of their faculty.

    Canadian Trustee

    Dr. Heather Carr is a Past President of the Canadian Dental Association and only the third female to serve in this role. A significant portion of her term was spent in close communication with the federal government, negotiating the Canadian Dental Care Program (CDCP) alongside her provincial and territorial colleagues.


    Dr. Carr has assumed leadership roles at every level of organized dentistry. She is a Past President of the Halifax County Dental Society and was the third female Nova Scotia Dental Association President. She joined the CDA Board as the first female NSDA Representative in October 2015. In dental school she was Journal Editor and the first female Dalhousie Dental Students Society President in 1987-88. She received her D.D.S. with the University Medal and Gold D from Dalhousie Dental School in 1988.


    Dr. Carr is a general dentist and partner at Atlantic Dental Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She has chaired committees at both the NSDA and CDA level since her graduation. She served as the NSDA Representative to the Canadian Dental Services Plan Inc (CDSPI) for several years.


    Recently, Dr. Carr was honoured with the Dalhousie Dentistry Outstanding Alumni Award in recognition of her efforts serving organized dentistry with distinction. In 2024, she received the Ontario Dental Association Presidential Citation. It was in recognition of exceptional leadership, dedication, collaborative efforts, and an instrumental role in negotiating with the federal government on the CDCP.


     

    In 2021, Heather was recognized by the NSDA with its highest honour, the Dr. P.S. Christie Distinguished Service Award. She received the NSDA Award of Excellence in 2015 and the NSDA Volunteer of the Year in 2005. Dr. Carr was awarded Fellowships in the Pierre Fauchard Academy (PFA), International College of Dentists, and American College of Dentists. She is a member of the Canadian Academy of Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics and the East Coast Endodontic Study Club. Dr Carr was recently elected as the PFA Trustee for Canada (Region 6).


    Dr. Carr has been a community volunteer throughout her life. She was a Girl Guide leader, organized a MS Bike Tour Team, and is actively involved with Cheema Aquatic Club. As a Master Kayaker, she paddled across North America and participated in the 2013 World Masters Games in Torino, Italy.


    Heather is the proud mother of Dr. Chelsea Carr Kinnear, a chiropractor in Fall River (N.S.) and Dr. Evan Carr Kinnear, a 2021 University of Toronto Dental School graduate practicing in Kentville (N.S.) She and her partner, John Ormsby, enjoy travelling, theatre, golf, spending time on the lake in the summer and winter weekends at her ski cottage in Wentworth.
