Distinguished Service Plaque

The Distinguished Service Plaque may be presented to a Fellow of the Academy in appreciation for loyal and dedicated service to the Academy.

Dr. David Lim, the 2024 Distinguished Service Citation

“The Pierre Fauchard Academy prides itself on identifying, supporting, and fostering leadership in dentistry. I am very honored to be presenting this award to an individual who embodies what it truly means to be a leader.

Dr. David Lim’s desire to become a dentist was already steeped in the highest definition of leadership itself: Service.

To quote David, “I wanted something more than a job” .

David wanted something that would provide him with a special skillset that would allow him to volunteer and use for mission trips.

As is so crucial in the leadership journey, David is so thankful to have met his first mentor, Dr. Bruce Ward, right out of school. He credits him with shaping his dental philosophy. He is the reason David got involved with organized dentistry early on, and met many other mentors, such as Drs. Angelique Leung, Ray Fung, Mark Spurr, Peter Kearny, Tony Gill…and too many more to list.

David’s various volunteer positions on the BCDA, the Korean Dental Society, the Pacific Dental Conference and Canadian Dental Association are also too many to list. His most recent and ambitious position; serving as the President of the British Columbia Dental Association.

The decision to serve as President was not an easy one. David’s two young children, now 8-year-old Celine and 6-year-old Elijah, made the decision to give so much of his time, a difficult one. David stated it wouldn’t have been possible without the support and understanding of his wife of 17 years, Amy, A Doctor of Clinical Pharmacy who is also involved with her profession.

David was an impeccable leader during the provincial and territorial meetings with the Canadian Dental Association and the Federal Government to shape a Federal Dental Care Plan that worked for Canadians and the providers of care.

In the end, David attributes the success of his term to the support systems of family, the talented staff and board of the BCDA and all the other Canadian dental contacts he made.

Dr. Benoit Desrosiers, the 2024 Distinguished Service Citation

  • Dr. Benoit Desrosiers is the Directeur Général of the ACDQ, responsible for the Association’s day-to-day operations.
  • The ACDQ was formed in 1966 to study, defend and develop the professional, economic and social interests of its members. Benoit has done this with each decision he has made as Directeur Général since 2014.
  • Dental associations from across Canada have learned and looked to the leadership of the ACDQ since it was founded, and with Benoit as it’s Directeur Général.
  • When the Canadian Dental Care Plan was first announced on March 22, 2022, only one dental association in Canada was pushing for a federally administered program – the ACDQ. The only dental association to support the ACDQ was the Ontario Dental Association.
  • We were told this was impossible.  We were told balance billing was impossible.
  • Through the leadership of the ACDQ, we have achieved these goals and have taken important steps to protect dentistry for dental patients and dentists.
