In memory of Dr. Barry Dolman

It is with profound sadness that the family of Dr. Barry Dolman announces his passing on Sunday, March 28, 2021, at the age of 70 at home, surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of Colette Schouela for 48 years. Proud father and father-in-law of Jennifer Dolman and Anthony Sesel, Jason Dolman and Victoria Cohene, Jordan Dolman and Elizabeth Smith, Julie Dolman and Brady Shein. A playful “Papa Barry” to his grandchildren, Zoe, Maya and Brooke Sesel; Lindsay Dolman; Jacob, Joseph and Juliet Dolman. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Nina Dolman, Eric and Michele Dolman; and brother-in-law of Eliane Telio, David and Elaine Schouela, Danny Schouela and Sonia Serfaty. Son of the late Freda and late Joseph Dolman.

Barry began his career as a clinician at the University of Montreal. From 1985 to 1998, he sat on the board of directors of the Quebec Dental Surgeons Association and then at the Canadian Dental Association where he was elected president in 1996. He was national secretary of the International Dental Federation in 1997, president of the International Society for Dental Regulators in 2016 and the first Jewish and Anglophone president of the Order of dentists of Quebec, from 2011 to 2019. Barry was Chair of the Canadian Division of the International Pierre Fauchard Academy, where he helped provide scholarships and grants to support access to oral care. He was a consultant for emerging companies in the Quebec dental technology sector, an adviser for the dental and pharmaceutical industry and a contributor to policy development and media coverage on matters related to oral health. Barry was excited about beginning a new chapter as Director, Regulatory and Clinical Affairs, at Altima Dental.

Barry was a passionate advocate for access to quality oral health care, such as affordable dental insurance, services for the elderly, a pediatric oncology program, and cooperation between health care professionals. He looked forward to swearing in new dentists and encouraging students. He was devoted to caring for all of his patients, and they continue to express their appreciation for his tireless attention and dedication. It is truly remarkable how much he managed to accomplish in his professional life while keeping his family at the forefront of his priorities.
We are grateful to all of the colleagues, friends and patients who encouraged and supported Barry during the past year. Heartfelt thanks to the medical staff at the Jewish General Hospital and to Dr. Stephen Di Tomasso and his team at the CLSC des Faubourgs.

Donations to honour Barry may be made to the “Dr. Barry and Colette Dolman Fund for Pancreatic Research” at the Jewish General Hospital Foundation 514-340-8251.
